Facebook’s reel feature is going global, with the company expanding it to 150 countries and adding new capabilities.

“Reel is already our fastest growing content format ever, and today we’re making it available to everyone on Facebook,” said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a Facebook post.

We want Reel to be the perfect place for creators to make a living and interact with their audience, so we are also introducing additional monetization capabilities.”

Reel, Meta’s answer to TikTok, has been a huge hit on Instagram, as well as helping the company’s photo and video sharing platform grow quite rapidly in regions like India, where TikTok was banned in 2022.

Last year, Facebook added Reels to its main, although it was only available in the US.

Facebook will now allow creators to benefit from these reels, as well as increased overlay ad testing with banner and sticker ads.

According to Facebook’s official press article, the Reel feature will be available on iOS and Android in over 150 countries, and users will be able to access it through the Watch tab in the Facebook app.

Reel is a top target for the social media giant, which lost a third of its market value following a disastrous earnings report.

As a response to the massively popular short-video app TikTok, which is owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance, Meta debuted the reels on Instagram in 2022 and Facebook in 2022.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote, “Reels is already our fastest growing content format ever, and today we’re making it available to everyone on Facebook globally.

” The firm also unveiled new opportunities for creators to make money through the Reel feature, which it claims now covers half the time people spend on Facebook.

It announced that it is expanding its program to give creators bonuses in new countries and is using overlay ads with banners and stickers to help creators earn advertising money.

It will soon start showing full-screen ads between the reels.

Meta said on its most recent earnings call that it was hurt by Apple Inc.’s operating system privacy changes that made it more difficult for brands to target and measure their ads on Facebook and Instagram.

Macroeconomic factors such as supply-chain disruptions were also mentioned.

Meta also said in its statement that it will be rolling out upgrades that will allow users to create and watch Facebook Reels in new places, such as the Stories feature, on top of the Watch tab and news stream.
